Black Box

O.k there seems no better place to start blogging about value wines than with the BOX category. There are two members to this family of wine, beginner with training wheels and training wheels off. I am only going to comment on the training wheels off variety. These include dryer more contemporary style wines that people who enjoy a bottle of wine might like. The quintessential type of this wine is BLACK BOX. It comes in a multitude of varietals, cab, merlot, chard, syrah, Riesling, sauvignon blanc. All are decent. It is what I serve at large gatherings of my winey friends. It is not offensive, practical and shows couth and sophistication beyond Franzia or Peter Vella. So serve Black Box with confidence and if anyone complains ask them to bring the wine next time.
